Travel and Activities In Woods are Restricted

Starting 5 August (at 4pm), travel and activities in woods are restricted to help prevent wildfires. Hiking, camping, fishing and the use of vehicles in the woods are not permitted, trail systems through woods are off limits and camping is allowed only in campgrounds. 12:45pm Updates

LONG LAKE WILDFIRES COMPLEX, ANNAPOLIS COUNTY, SEPTEMBER 2, 12:45 PM

The Long Lake wildfires complex is still out of control. The new size estimate based on more precise measurement is 8468 hectares. No new reports of damage.

Crews made good ground over the weekend. Dozer guard and lines of hose/pumps are complete along the northern end of the fire, tying in that section. The south end of the fire is the most active and facing drying conditions this week.

Ten contract helicopters are in action, along with four planes and a bird dog. Firefighters on site include four Department of Natural Resources (DNR), 61 Ontario, 40 Quebec, and 45 local, along with about 50 pieces of heavy machinery.

The next update will be around midday tomorrow.


Phased Re Entry - Annapolis County

Evacuation Re Entry - Sept 3

There will be a phased re-entry for some residences near the Long Lake wildfires starting Wednesday, Sept. 3rd.

Checkpoints will be in place, bring ID. Drive carefully, expect possible delays and smoke. For more information visit www.annapoliscounty.ca or call 1-833-806-1515.

Thank you for your patience as we plan for a safe re-entry.

Re-entry will be done in a phased approach for the following areas:
– 9 am: all streets around Trout Lake
– 11 am: Zwicker and East lakes, in New Albany
– 1 pm: Highway 10, West Dalhousie Rd to Che-Boag-A-Nish Rd (Connell Lake)
– 4 pm: Highway 10 will reopen to the general public.

Residents should go to the Crisp Rd or West Dalhousie Rd check-points with valid ID with their civic address. The decision is based on current fire behaviour, air quality and road access.

Areas still under evacuation orders:

From intersection of Che-Boag-A-Nish Rd. & West Dalhousie Rd. to intersection of Meadow Rd. & West Dalhousie Rd.

This includes all of Heartland Rd., Thorne Rd., and Medicraft Lane – Morse Rd. remains closed from Neaves Rd. to West Dalhousie Rd.

Residents returning home are advised to:

– drive with caution as fire crew may still be working in the area
– be aware of air quality advisories & limit exposure if sensitive to smoke
– check home for damage before re-entering
– be prepared to evacuate if fire behaviour changes
