Travel and Activities In Woods are Restricted
Starting 5 August (at 4pm), travel and activities in woods are restricted to help prevent wildfires. Hiking, camping, fishing and the use of vehicles in the woods are not permitted, trail systems through woods are off limits and camping is allowed only in campgrounds. 8:10pm update:
SIMONDS LAKE, Digby County
Simonds Lake fire is now under control. Estimated at 1.75 hectares. Started as structure fire, then spread into the woods. Crews will continue working until the fire is fully extinguished. This is our last update on this fire.
Le feu de Simonds Lake est maintenant maîtrisé et couvre 1,75 hectare. Le feu s’est déclaré dans un bâtiment, puis s’est propagé à la forêt. Les équipes vont poursuivre leur travail jusqu’à ce que le feu soit entièrement éteint.

6:30pm update:
LONG LAKE WILDFIRE COMPLEX, Annapolis County
The Long Lake wildfires complex is still estimated at 3210 hectares. It has crossed the West Dalhousie Road near Fairns Road. Crews are making good progress on dozer guards around the flanks. Still no reports of damage to homes.
On the ground are 93 DNR, 22 Ontario, 5 PEI and 49 local firefighters. Air resources this evening include 4 NWT planes, 1 contracted helicopter, and an air tanker group coming from New Brunswick to make a quick strike. Next update in morning.
2:45pm update:
LONG LAKE WILDFIRE COMPLEX, Annapolis County
The Long Lake wildfires complex is now estimated at 3210 hectares. The change in size is mainly due to crews being able to get a more precise GPS measurement while there was less smoke this morning. There are still no reports of damage to homes.
On the ground are 93 DNR, 22 Ontario, 5 PEI and 15 local firefighters. Air resources include four NWT planes and two contracted helicopters. DNR aircraft are dedicated to initial attack on new fires to knock them down and get them under control quickly. The next update is coming this evening.
10:35 am Update:
LONG LAKE WILDFIRE COMPLEX, Annapolis County
The Long Lake wildfires complex grew overnight to an estimated 2063 hectares. No reports of damage to homes at this time. A few campers and trailers were lost. Air resources include four Northwest Territories planes and two contracted helicopters.
On the ground are 77 Department of Natural Resources, 22 Ontario, and five PEI firefighters. Local firefighters are taking a much needed break, with ten on the scene this morning. Next update will be this afternoon.
SIMONDS LAKE WILDFIRE, Digby County
Simonds Lake fire is still out of control, estimated at 1.75 hectares. Ten Department of Natural Resources and 16 local firefighters are on the scene. Next update this evening.
