Travel and Activities In Woods are Restricted
Starting 5 August (at 4pm), travel and activities in woods are restricted to help prevent wildfires. Hiking, camping, fishing and the use of vehicles in the woods are not permitted, trail systems through woods are off limits and camping is allowed only in campgrounds. Wild Fire Updates
There are multiple fires across the province. This post will update throughout the day:
West Dalhousie Wildfire, Annapolis County, 14 August, 8:45 PM
The Long Lake fire in West Dalhousie is now estimated at 406 hectares and is still out of control. 30 Department of Natural Resources (DNR) firefighters and 10 firefighters from local fire departments are on the scene with two DNR and two contracted helicopters are working. Protections are in place for structures. Heavy equipment are continuing to create fire barriers.
The Hoyt Lake fire is still estimated at 1 hectare. it is part of the Long Lake complex. Seven DNR firefighters and 10 firefighters are on the scene. Aircraft also supporting.
There is also a fire at Durland Lake Brook that is part of Long Lake complex. It estimated at 0.3 hectares. 6 DNR and 20 local firefighters are working on the ground and a DNR helicopter is supporting from air. Next update tomorrow.
Susies Lake Wildfire, Halifax County, 14 August, 8:30 PM
No change in Susies Lake wildfire. Still being held – not currently growing. Firefighters will monitor overnight, crews returning in morning. Next update tomorrow.
Lake Paul Wildfire, Kings County, 14 August, 8:30 pm
The fire at Lake Paul is now under control. This is our last update on this fire.
West Dalhousie Wildfire, Annapolis County, 14 August, 4:00 PM
The Long Lake fire in West Dalhousie is still estimated at 300 hectares and is out of control. 30 Department of Natural Resources (DNR) firefighters and 10 firefighters from local fire departments are on the scene.
Two DNR and two contracted helicopters are working on both fires. Heavy equipment will be working to create fire barriers.
The Hoyt Lake fire is still estimated at 1 hectare, seven DNR firefighters and 10 firefighters are on the scene. Aircraft also supporting.
Susies Lake Wildfire, Halifax County, 14 August, 4:00 PM
Susies Lake wildfire is still being held - not currently growing. Crews are making good progress and working to get it under control. 20 DNR and 25 Halifax Fire and Emergency firefighters are onsite.
West Dalhousie Wildfire, Annapolis County, 14 August, 1:00 PM
The Long Lake fire in West Dalhousie is now estimated at 300 hectares and is out of control. About 3 km from West Dalhousie Road 42 homes have been evacuated. 30 Department of Natural Resources (DNR) firefighters and 10 firefighters from local fire departments are on the scene.
Two DNR and two contracted helicopters are working on both fires. Crews are putting dozer guard around West Dalhousie Community Centre and two communication towers.
The Hoyt Lake fire is still estimated at 1 hectare, seven DNR firefighters are on the scene. Aircraft also supporting. Next update late afternoon.

West Dalhousie Wildfire, Annapolis County, 14 August, 10:45 AM
Two West Dalhousie fires are still out of control. There is an evacuation on West Dalhousie Road due to the Long Lake fire which is estimated at 30 hectares. Thirty Department of Natural Resources (DNR) crew were assigned this morning. The Hoyt Lake fire is estimated at one hectare with seven DNR firefighters on the scene.
One DNR and two contracted helicopters are working on both fires. Crews are putting a dozer guard around the West Dalhousie Community Centre and two communication towers.
Susies Lake Wildfire, Halifax County, 14 August, 10:45 AM
The Susies Lake wildfire is still being held - not currently growing. Thirty DNR and 12 Halifax Fire & Emergency onsite this morning, will work to get it under control.
Oxford Wildfire, Cumberland County, 14 August, 10:45 AM
The six small wildfires in the Birchwood Road area of Oxford are all under control. Crews will stay onsite until it is fully extinguished. This is our last update on these fire.
Lake Paul Wildfire, Kings County, 14 August, 10:45 AM
The 1.9-hectare fire at Lake Paul is still being held - not currently growing. Ten DNR and ten local fire department firefighters are on the scene.
No change in status this time to the Susies Lake wildfire. Media have been invited to a briefing at 3 pm today. It will be livestreamed for the public on Facebook and at https://youtube.com/nsgov
15 Department of Natural Resources (DNR) firefighters and 30 local firefighters are working on two small out of control wildfires near Lake Paul, Kings Co. The estimated size is .9 hectares and 1.9 hectares. Two DNR helicopters are dropping water. Next update this afternoon.

EVACUATION ORDER: WEST DALHOUSIE, 14 August, 10:00 AM
An evacuation alert has been issued for 4094 – 5315 West Dalhousie Road, Annapolis Co., due to wildfire in the area.
The Bridgetown fire department (31 Bay Rd, Bridgetown) will act as a reception centre for evacuees.

CXN The evacuation order for West Dalhousie has been expanded to include:
- West Dalhousie Rd. intersection to 484 Morse Rd.
- 4530 West Dalhousie Rd. to 6186 West Dalhousie Rd.
- 2648 Thorne Rd. to 3408 Thorne Rd.
- 122, 126, 126 (Unit 2) Medicraft Lane.
